Tokenization of real-world assets has taken unexpected forms, from filmmaker Alex Ramírez-Mallis recording and selling his farts as NFTs for 0.05 ETH each (about $85) to 10 Brazilian cows turned into tokenized collateral by investment fund Target FIDC with an initial loan of $19,600 and potential for $80 million in livestock-backed financing. Art was also impacted: collective Burnt Banksy purchased a work for approximately $95,000, burned it live, then sold the NFT for approximately $382,000. Jack Dorsey’s first tweet reached $2.9 million in 2021, but a resale attempt at $48 million failed, with the highest bid reaching only $6,800. Uranium, music royalties, whiskey casks, and even a patch of skin from a Croatian tennis player are among the other unusual assets tokenized.
