WEMIX reported a major smart contract compromise on July 26 after an attacker obtained owner privileges. The attacker minted and transferred approximately 5.23 million WEMIX tokens, converted into 30,736 WEMIX and 724,198.27 USDC.e, totaling an estimated $6.25 million. The funds moved through Ethereum and BNB Chain before being exchanged for ETH, USDT, and other assets, complicating tracking and recovery efforts. The team identified the compromised addresses, disabled the WEMIX3.0 Bridge, and partnered with exchanges that have already frozen several linked addresses. The investigation continues to determine the attack path and strengthen internal security controls.
