Waymo officially launched its paid robotaxi service in Las Vegas on September 14, marking its 15th US metro area and its first commercial operation in Nevada. The service started with a waitlist of over 100,000 people and operates in an area of roughly 24 square miles including parts of the Las Vegas Strip. The initial fleet features sixth-generation Ojai all-electric minivans, with Nevada regulators approving deployment of up to 1,000 vehicles over the next year. Amazon Zoox had launched its own paid service in the same city roughly five weeks earlier, making Las Vegas one of the first US cities where two separate robotaxi operators are competing for fares simultaneously.
