Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger announced Thursday she will intervene in the merger between NextEra and Dominion Energy, a deal valued at nearly $67 billion that would create the world’s largest regulated electric utility. Dominion powers the largest data center market in the world in northern Virginia. This intervention is unprecedented, as it marks the first time a governor has taken such action before the Virginia State Corporation Commission. NextEra shares closed down more than 1% Thursday while Dominion stock fell more than 2%.
