US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is welcoming G20 finance ministers and central bank governors to Asheville, North Carolina, for a two-day meeting on August 31 and September 1. US public debt has surpassed 40 trillion dollars, roughly equivalent to the combined GDP of China and Japan, while longer-term Treasury yields have climbed to multi-decade highs. Official agenda items include pro-growth policies, sovereign debt transparency, supply chain resilience, and enforcement of US sanctions on Iran. Officials from Saudi Arabia and Japan are among those who confirmed attendance. This gathering sets the stage for the G20 leaders’ summit scheduled for December 2026 in Miami.
