US Senate rejects second war powers resolution on Iran as Bitcoin dips and crypto sanctions tighten

The US Senate rejected a second war powers resolution aimed at limiting President Trump’s military authority over Iran on June 25, 2026, by a vote of 47-50 with 1 abstention. The resolution came closer to passing than the first attempt in March 2026, which failed 47-53. The US Treasury froze at least $344 million in cryptocurrency assets linked to Iran, with some reports placing total assets involved as high as $7.7 billion. Bitcoin fell more than 3% below $62,000 in early July 2026, partly in response to Trump’s comments suggesting the ceasefire with Iran was no longer operative. Two Republican senators, Rand Paul and Bill Cassidy, crossed the aisle to support the resolution.
