United States imposes tariffs on Peruvian exports as part of sweeping 60-country trade action

The United States has imposed tariffs ranging from 10% to 13% on goods from approximately 60 countries, a measure that took effect on July 24. Peru is among the targeted economies, despite months of bilateral negotiations with US officials to demonstrate efforts against forced-labor imports. Washington contends that Peru failed to adequately prohibit and effectively enforce bans on importing goods produced through forced labor. The decision comes amid heightened global market volatility. As a major exporter of copper, gold, zinc, and agricultural products, Peru could face disruptions to its export flows, potentially impacting global commodity prices.
