Ukraine secures €3.47B EU loan tranche for defense procurement as bloc commits €90B through 2027

The European Union has begun disbursing funds from a 90 billion euro support loan to Ukraine, with a first tranche of approximately 3.2 billion euros paid on June 25, 2026. Of this total, 60 billion euros is specifically allocated to defense industrial capacities, covering purchases of drones, air defense systems, ammunition, missiles, and Gripen fighter jets. The loan is guaranteed by the EU budget, with the expectation that repayment will come from future Russian reparations. The UK joined the scheme in July 2026, enabling British defense firms to bid on contracts funded through this initiative.
