Uber partners with 30 companies to build autonomous vehicle empire

Uber has assembled a coalition of around thirty autonomous vehicle companies, with a total commitment exceeding $10 billion, including more than $2.5 billion in equity stakes in companies like WeRide, Lucid, Nuro, Rivian, and Wayve. The plan includes deploying at least 20,000 autonomous robotaxis based on the Lucid Gravity platform powered by Nuro’s autonomy stack starting in 2026, with Uber having invested around $300 million in Lucid. The company has earmarked $100 million for building fast-charging networks across ten cities by the end of 2026. In February 2026, Uber formalized this strategy under a dedicated business unit called Uber Autonomous Solutions, providing infrastructure, data, mapping, and operational support to its AV partners.
