Two major groups representing U.S. prosecutors submitted fresh changes to make it easier to prosecute certain crypto software developers. The core dispute centers on whether authorities should hold developers responsible for crimes committed on the platforms they build. The Trump administration wants to protect developers who do not hold customer funds to encourage innovation, while critics and prosecutors, including New York’s Attorney General, warn the legislation could enable financial crimes. The Fraternal Order of Police and several other law enforcement organizations, along with over 160 former national security officials, nonetheless support the bill.
