President Donald Trump on Monday voiced support for Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh, calling him « fantastic », while insisting that the U.S. should have the lowest interest rates in the world. During a trip aboard Air Force One, he questioned the motives of other members of the Fed’s Board of Governors, accusing them of having « bad intentions ». The Fed’s monetary policy committee is set to release its next rate decision in two days. The U.S. benchmark rate currently stands between 3.5% and 3.75%, a level comparable to the Bank of England’s, but higher than the European Central Bank (2.25%), the Bank of Japan (1%) and China’s central bank (3%).
