Texas Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton unveiled on August 24 a four-point federal legislative platform targeting data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The platform proposes banning Chinese-linked technology from U.S. data centers and establishing criminal liability for operators whose facilities power AI chatbots that endanger children. ERCOT, which manages Texas’s power grid, is currently processing connection requests totaling between 438,000 and 474,000 megawatts, with approximately 90% coming from data centers. Governor Greg Abbott has also ordered an audit of data center projects in response to mounting community concerns over electricity and water consumption.
