Tether sued over frozen ‘pig butcher’ coins, 6,600 students get crypto loans: Asia Express

Thailand is strengthening oversight of crypto transfers with new Travel Rule regulations effective February 27, 2027. ASIA Pencil Finance completed a $1 million onchain student loan cycle, financing 6,600 students in Southeast Asia, with 93% coming from lower-income households. Remixpoint, one of Japan’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders, sold all its altcoins and now holds only 1,506 BTC ($115 million). Standard Chartered became the first global bank to offer institutional digital asset trading services in the United Arab Emirates. The Monetary Authority of Singapore is considering relaxing restrictions on stablecoins issued across multiple jurisdictions, while Japan’s Financial Services Agency proposed exempting trust-type stablecoins from mandatory tax filings starting in fiscal year 2027.
