Strategy authorizes up to $5B in Bitcoin sales after $8B Q2 loss

Strategy Inc., formerly MicroStrategy, reported a net loss of $8.22 billion in Q2 2026, or $24.45 per diluted share, driven by an $8.32 billion unrealized loss on its Bitcoin holdings. The company authorized a Bitcoin monetization program of up to $5 billion, allocating $1.25 billion for USD reserves, $1.76 billion for preferred dividends and interest, and $2 billion for share and credit repurchases. Strategy holds between 843,775 and 846,000 BTC, representing roughly 4% of all Bitcoin in existence, making it the world’s largest institutional holder. Its shares dropped approximately 7% in pre-market trading following the earnings release.
