Stocks wrap up winning week even as inflation becomes top of mind for investors

US stocks wrapped up a winning week despite growing inflation concerns. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh expressed reservations during his Jackson Hole speech, saying recent inflation data does not show significant improvement in underlying trends. The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index rose more than expected in July, raising expectations for a rate hike at the Fed’s September meeting. Nvidia reported better-than-expected second-quarter results, with revenue more than doubling year-over-year, and forecasts 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028, well above the 44% analysts had expected. The stock gained nearly 9% the next day, breaking a streak of post-earnings declines.
