Singapore unveils incentives to attract asset managers amid intensifying rivalry with Hong Kong

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced on August 19 three new measures to lure and retain top-tier asset managers: a targeted tax exemption on carried interest and performance fees, a new hedge fund investment program backed by MAS capital, and an upgraded ONE Pass visa for elite talent. These measures are a direct response to Hong Kong’s tax reforms announced in June 2026. Singapore’s asset management sector currently manages nearly S$7 trillion in assets under management, growing at approximately 7.5% annually over the past five years, contributing around 15% to financial sector output and supporting 25,000 jobs.
