The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will host a public roundtable on September 17 in Washington to discuss implementing 24-hour trading in US equity markets. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the United States is moving toward a « new day – and night – in US equity markets » and that this expansion would align American markets with those already trading continuously. Nasdaq said in March it had engaged with US regulators to provide 24-hour trading five days a week, aiming for a launch in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approval. The London Stock Exchange also plans to open a night-time trading venue in early 2027.
