MariBank, Sea’s digital bank subsidiary, launched in Singapore in 2023 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southeast Asia’s largest tech firm. The bank posted a loss of 55.6 million Singapore dollars ($43.4 million) in 2025, larger than its 51.3 million loss in 2024, with Sea injecting $75 million Singapore dollars in January to support growth. MariBank expanded to the Philippines last year following Sea’s acquisition of rural bank Banco Laguna, whose license was recently upgraded to a full-fledged digital bank by the Philippine central bank. The group plans to leverage its Singapore expertise and data from its Shopee e-commerce platform to underwrite loans in a market with limited formal credit history.
