RWE’s $1.22B exit marks the latest in Trump’s billion-dollar offshore wind buyouts—now topping $3B to redirect developers to fossil fuels

The Trump administration paid $1.22 billion to RWE to cancel its offshore wind projects off New York, California, and Louisiana, and invest in natural gas instead. This deal brings the total spent by the administration to over $3 billion to buy out offshore wind developers and redirect them to fossil fuels. RWE will invest $900 million for a 16% stake in Woodside Energy’s Louisiana LNG project, and $300 million in gas-fired turbines. Several states sued the federal government in June, arguing these agreements are unlawful and harm their states by costing them clean energy projects.
