Dogecoin cofounder Billy Markus, known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto on X, has responded to concerns raised by developer Paulo Vidal regarding Dogecoin’s security dependence on Litecoin through merge mining (AuxPoW). Markus rejected these arguments by referencing the white paper of Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto, stating that miners mine for the reward. The Dogecoin Foundation developer had raised the question of what would happen to Dogecoin’s security if Litecoin stopped operating tomorrow. David Schwartz, director at the Litecoin Foundation, and the Dogecoin cofounder both agree that merge mining remains the best option for Dogecoin.
