Proof of Attendance Protocol shuts down after five years, raising questions about utility NFT viability

POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol) stopped issuing new badges on March 16, 2026 after more than five years of operation. The protocol minted over 6.7 million blockchain-verifiable digital badges. The project raised $10 million in January 2022 but failed to establish a sustainable business model, especially since it operated without a native token. The team indicated it is pivoting toward developing a new standard for open collectibles. Previously minted badges will remain on-chain as permanent attendance records.
