A 36-year-old man involved in the kidnapping and assault of the mother of a cryptocurrency entrepreneur in Élancourt (Yvelines) in July 2023 appeared before the investigating chamber of the Versailles court to request his release. He will be tried alongside his three accomplices before the Yvelines criminal court. On July 20, 2023, the attackers posed as a delivery person before kidnapping and threatening the victim with a hammer and a machete to obtain the transfer of 10 million euros in cryptocurrencies by her son, the head of a Bitcoin-focused financial company based in New York. The son ultimately transferred the equivalent of 30,000 euros before the perpetrators fled. The suspected mastermind, Badiss Mohammed Bajjou, had already been sentenced to 25 years in prison in Morocco.
