Poland remains the only EU member state without a functioning national framework for MiCA after the Sejm failed for the third time to override President Karol Nawrocki’s veto on crypto regulation. Friday’s vote fell 25 votes short of the three-fifths majority required, with 241 votes in favor and 198 against out of 442 lawmakers present. The bill would have designated Poland’s Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) as the country’s official crypto regulator, aligning domestic rules with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation. All EU member states were required to implement MiCA by July 2026, a deadline Poland has now entirely missed. The Zondacrypto scandal, linked to the 2022 disappearance of BitBay founder Sylwester Suszek with estimated investor losses of approximately 350 million zlotys ($95 million), has intensified the political debate over the need for such regulation.
