Orionx shuts down after audit reveals $7M custody gap

Chilean crypto exchange Orionx announced its permanent shutdown on September 3, 2026, after a forensic audit revealed that over $7 million in customer assets had been moved to external wallets between 2018 and 2021. More than 100,000 registered users are affected by the closure. The company filed criminal complaints against two former executives, Joaquín Díaz and Roberto Zibert, accused of misappropriating funds in Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Polygon over several years. Chile’s Financial Market Commission, the CMF, had rejected Orionx’s application for regulatory authorization in June 2026, confirming that the platform had been operating without the required licenses under Chile’s Fintech Law.
