OpenAI to end model access to Cursor after acquisition by Elon Musk’s SpaceX

OpenAI announced late Friday that it is ending developers’ access to its models on Cursor, following the acquisition of the AI coding startup by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The acquisition was completed on August 14 for 60 billion dollars. OpenAI set November 12, 2026 as the proposed shutoff date and said it cannot be confident that SpaceX will use its technology within its terms of service. OpenAI models serve about 5% of Cursor user traffic. This decision stems from the ongoing conflict between Musk, who co-founded OpenAI and left its board in 2018, and CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman.
