OpenAI faces staff unrest amid executive exits and listing plans

OpenAI is preparing for a major IPO at a valuation of $852 billion. Two senior executives, Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser and Brad Lightcap, departed the company within days of each other in August 2026, just months after the confidential SEC filing. The company has also undergone significant safety team restructuring, including the disbandment of its mission alignment team in February and the departure of the head of Safety Systems in July. These departures are occurring at a delicate moment as the company must convince institutional investors of its stability while competitors such as Anthropic and Google position themselves as safer alternatives.
