According to The Information, Nvidia has reportedly agreed to acquire Hugging Face for approximately $12.9 billion. Founded in 2016 by three French entrepreneurs, Clément Delangue, Julien Chaumond and Thomas Wolf, this open source platform has become a go-to destination for AI developers, with over 500,000 users. The proposed amount represents nearly three times the $4.5 billion valuation from the last funding round in 2023. For Nvidia, this acquisition would allow the company to control the software layer where AI developers gather, beyond simply selling chips. The deal remains subject to confirmation from both companies and could draw attention from competition authorities.
