Japanese banking group Nomura obtained authorization from the Financial Services Agency for its subsidiary Laser Digital to operate as a crypto asset exchange service provider in Japan. This marks the first exchange license issued by the Japanese regulator since October 2022, when Binance Japan was approved. Japan’s crypto market is entering a new phase of maturity, with a growing need for reliable infrastructure to meet rising institutional investor interest. In July, the Japanese parliament passed revisions bringing crypto assets under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, introducing insider trading rules and stronger oversight for crypto businesses.
