The IMF has reached an agreement with El Salvador to release $140 million in exchange for the country stopping public purchases of Bitcoin. The deal allows the national reserve to continue growing through private donations, which the institution has validated. El Salvador’s Bitcoin reserve now stands at 7,762 BTC, worth over $630 million at current prices. This marks the first negotiation between a state accumulating Bitcoin and a multilateral creditor, potentially setting a precedent for countries like Bhutan, the United States, or Russia considering similar strategies.
