NEAR governance has approved proposal HSP-027 to eliminate the 30% developer gas rebate program. Going forward, all execution fees will be directed toward a protocol-level burn mechanism. This change, part of a broader network tokenomics adjustment, is expected to be deployed with the nearcore v2.14 upgrade in August 2026. The burn model removes fees from circulation, altering the value flow compared to the previous system where developers captured a portion of fees generated by their contracts. Until the upgrade is effectively implemented, the rebate remains active on mainnet.
