Iranian authorities have not confirmed these unverified reports, which come as he has been largely absent from public life since his appointment roughly a week after his father Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28, 2026 during an airstrike attributed to US and Israeli forces. Mojtaba himself was reportedly injured in the same attack, with Western analysts describing his wounds as severe. If confirmed incapacitated, Iran would face its second leadership transition in months, with no obvious heir apparent.
