Microsoft pours $21B into India’s largest data center as cloud infrastructure race heats up

Microsoft announced its largest-ever Asia investment of approximately $21 billion in India, focusing on cloud and AI infrastructure. The centerpiece is a hyperscale data center in Hyderabad, set to be India’s largest when completed in mid-2026. Once finished, Microsoft will operate four Azure regions across India, with significant upgrades to existing facilities in Chennai and Pune. The investment also covers sovereign cloud solutions and training programs for over 20 million people. This push comes as AWS and Google Cloud intensify their own investments in Indian data centers, making the country a strategic battleground for cloud dominance in Asia.
