An investigation revealed that Facebook and Instagram ran over 87,000 ads for AI-powered nudification applications, including CrushAI from Joy Timeline HK Limited, across more than 135 Facebook pages. At least 170 business accounts participated in this advertising campaign primarily targeting users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany. Meta, which has a policy prohibiting ads for apps generating non-consensual nude imagery, filed a lawsuit against Joy Timeline HK Limited on June 12, 2025, despite being aware of the violations since 2023. By September 2025, over 4,215 additional ads for these applications were still active on Meta’s platforms.
