Meta mandates weekly AI-assisted code fixes from engineers

Share

Meta now requires each of its engineers to submit at least one AI-assisted code fix per week, aiming to improve its internal coding agent MetaMateCR through real-world feedback. The company has set a target of 65 % of its engineers writing over 75 % of their code using AI by the first half of 2026, with internal discussions mentioning the possibility of reaching 95 % of new code generated by AI. Hundreds of engineers were laid off between early and mid-2026, with reductions explicitly tied to AI adoption strategies. This strategy is expected to accelerate demand for computing resources, a development relevant for crypto mining operations and decentralized compute networks like Render and Akash. It could also widen the gap between proprietary and open-source AI capabilities, with implications for decentralized AI projects relying on community-driven model improvement.
