Hunter Biden launched LAPTOP, a memecoin bearing the name of the laptop at the center of the 2020 scandal, on the Base blockchain on Wednesday. He intends to distribute a portion of the tokens to wallets that lost money on Donald Trump’s TRUMP memecoin, which he calls a grift. Chainalysis identified approximately 813,000 losing wallets on TRUMP with nearly 2 billion dollars in losses as of February 2025. LAPTOP’s supply allocates 30 % to founders with a six-month lockup, 20 % for community distributions, 30 % tied to predictions, and 5 % for charitable causes. The crypto industry has distanced itself from the project: Kraken removed a promotional post, and Jesse Pollak, founder of Base, stated that his team had participated in neither the design nor the promotion of the token.
