Marathon Digital and Nodal Power have launched a 280 kW Bitcoin mining pilot in Utah powered by landfill methane gas. The off-grid facility reports 92% uptime and power costs of approximately $0.03 per kWh. The project tests whether waste methane, a potent greenhouse gas, can be turned into a low-cost power source for Bitcoin mining. This model could help the industry counter criticism over energy consumption by converting an environmental liability into an energy source.
