MARA Holdings sells 726 BTC as Bitcoin miner continues strategic retreat from hodl playbook

MARA Holdings sold an additional 726 BTC, bringing its reserves down to 35,577 BTC from nearly 50,000 a year ago, representing a 29% decline. During Q1 2026, MARA sold approximately $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin, including 15,133 BTC for $1.1 billion in March, to reduce its debt load. The company reported a net loss of $611.3 million in Q2 2026, with $343 million from unrealized mark-to-market losses on digital assets and revenue down 27% year-over-year to $174.9 million. MARA is repositioning toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure, using part of its Bitcoin holdings as collateral or for lending purposes.
