According to KPMG’s global survey released June 24, only 7% of surveyed executives say they can demonstrate a positive return on AI investment, despite 76% believing AI is delivering meaningful business value. The survey, conducted from April 28 to May 25 among 2,145 C-suite leaders from organizations generating over $50 million in annual revenue across 20 countries, reveals that 42% of companies have only partial visibility into AI spending. Average AI spending stands at $188 million per company, with 24% of leaders reporting pressure from investors to demonstrate tangible value from these investments. Organizations where the CEO is explicitly accountable for AI outcomes show an established ROI rate of 14%, more than triple the 4% seen in organizations without such top-level ownership.
