Kalshi is preparing to file with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for approval of the first perpetual WTI crude oil futures contract in the United States, with a filing expected as soon as the week of September 8, 2026. This never-expiring contract would enable 24/5 trading, eliminating the need for traders to roll monthly positions like those traded on CME Group’s NYMEX. Kalshi’s BTCPERP product, launched in May 2026, has already accumulated $16.1 billion in notional trading volume by July 2026, demonstrating market appetite for perpetual products. CME Group, which dominates US oil futures trading through its NYMEX division, has strongly opposed the initiative and initiated legal challenges against approvals for perpetual contracts.
