A federal judge has ruled in favor of Anthropic in its legal battle against the Pentagon. Judge Rita Lin found that the government acted illegally by punishing the AI company for its criticism of the Department of Defense. The Pentagon had labeled Anthropic as a supply chain risk in February after President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accused the company of endangering national security. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei refused to back down over concerns about mass surveillance and autonomous armed drones. The judge wrote that the government’s actions were based on making a public example out of Anthropic for its « arrogance » in criticizing the government, not on any articulable basis to believe Anthropic would actually sabotage its model.
