Iran’s central bank chief rejects US claims on cryptocurrency links

Iran’s central bank governor Abdolnasser Hemmati has firmly denied US accusations that recently sanctioned cryptocurrency exchanges have any ties to the Iranian state. The US Treasury has frozen approximately $131 million in digital assets over three months, primarily after sanctioning Nobitex, Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, and four wallets linked to the central bank. Tether froze these funds at Washington’s request. This sustained sanctions campaign, branded « Economic Fury, » is targeting Iranian crypto infrastructure, with more designations expected to follow.
