Ineffable Intelligence, a London-based AI startup founded by former Google DeepMind researcher David Silver, has hired six new cofounders from DeepMind, InstaDeep, and Flying Fish. The company closed a $1.1 billion seed round, the largest in European startup history, valuing the pre-revenue firm at $5.1 billion. Its stated goal is to build a « superlearner » through large-scale reinforcement learning, the same methodology behind AlphaStar and AlphaGo. Four of the six new cofounders are former DeepMind colleagues of Silver’s, three of whom worked on the AlphaStar project for StarCraft II. The funding round was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Nvidia, Google, Index Ventures, and UK government entities.
