A parliamentary panel in India has proposed allowing overseas-registered companies to transfer their registration to GIFT City, the country’s international financial services centre in Gujarat. This would enable companies currently registered in Singapore, Dubai, or the Cayman Islands to relocate their legal domicile to India without dissolving and re-incorporating. GIFT IFSC operates as a regulatory enclave where entities are classified as « persons resident outside India, » benefiting from lighter regulatory frameworks and different tax treatment. The proposal also aims to reverse the trend of Indian founders incorporating abroad due to India’s hostile corporate and tax environment. No specific implementation timeline has been announced.
