Greece is entering its second week of wildfires aggravated by extreme winds, including the dry Meltemi winds reaching 80 to 100 km/h. A wildfire broke out in Western Attica near Athens. Two firefighters and a Danish pilot were killed on Sunday following the mid-air collision of two firefighting helicopters. Two other firefighters survived an emergency landing and are currently hospitalized. In France, a major wildfire in the Bordeaux region spread to parts of Spain, burning hundreds of thousands of acres and triggering the largest evacuation in the country’s history.
