Google Maps relabeled Lake Ontario as « Lake America » for US users, Alphabet Inc. announced, after President Donald Trump said he would rename the lake amid a trade spat with Canada. The decision follows a change in the official US government geographic naming system. Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes, spans the border between the two countries. Canadian users will continue to see the name « Lake Ontario, » while the rest of the world will see both names. MapQuest said it would not change the name, and Apple Maps still displays « Lake Ontario » to US users.
