Roughly 25% of the original authors of AlphaFold’s foundational papers have left DeepMind. The most notable is Nobel laureate John Jumper, creator of AlphaFold 2 that solved the protein folding problem. Jumper, along with Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel, has joined Anthropic. DeepMind officially disbanded its AlphaFold team on July 29, reassigning remaining researchers to other projects. The company’s new strategy centers on Gemini, its general-purpose AI model family.
