GameStop weighs withdrawing $56B eBay takeover bid in favor of partnership

GameStop is reportedly considering withdrawing its $56 billion unsolicited bid for eBay and proposing a partnership instead. The video game retailer, valued at $11-12 billion, launched the offer in May 2026 at $125 per share, representing a 20% premium, before eBay’s board rejected it citing governance and financing risks. Ryan Cohen, GameStop’s CEO, had increased the company’s stake in eBay from 5% to nearly 10%, representing approximately 43.4 million shares. This 10% position remains a significant lever to influence eBay’s strategy even without a formal deal.
