Emirates has launched cryptocurrency payments through Crypto.com Pay, allowing eligible UAE residents to purchase flights billed in dirhams. Transactions are validated via QR code or by redirecting to the Crypto.com app, with immediate conversion to dirhams so Emirates holds no cryptocurrency. The launch fulfills a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2025 between the airline and the crypto platform. The integration was made possible by the Stored Value Facilities license granted in May to Crypto.com’s local entity by the UAE Central Bank, making it the first crypto platform to receive this authorization. The service remains limited to the UAE market for now.
