Senator Rand Paul released Dr. Anthony Fauci’s unflattering diary. Dr. Fauci subsequently appeared before the U.S. Senate’s Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, where he invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times. A meta-analysis published in a book by the Institute of Economic Affairs in London and in the journal Public Choice, conducted by Steve Hanke with Jonas Herby in Denmark and Lars Jonung in Sweden, concludes that COVID-19 lockdowns had a minimal impact on mortality. According to this study examining 22 rigorous studies out of 19,646 identified, lockdowns saved only between 6,000 and 23,000 lives in Europe and between 4,000 and 16,000 in the United States, figures far below deaths from a typical flu season. The author claims he faced censorship on the SSRN platform as well as attacks from fact-checkers, describing what he calls the end of truth as outlined by Friedrich Hayek.
