The Government Accountability Office found that savings claimed by Elon Musk’s DOGE are in some cases inaccurate or lack supporting evidence. Of 264 leases identified for termination, 108 were already in the process of termination before DOGE was established. DOGE also claimed $1.7 billion in savings on a Department of Defense contract for IT services, despite taking no action to end the contract. As of July 7, DOGE reported total savings of $110 billion without transparent methodology and failed to respond to GAO information requests.
